“Me loving you/You loving me” is a poetic audiovisual work by artist Mikey Foster Estes. Shot on black-and-white 16mm film in the artist’s living room and in his childhood home, the film intimately documents his first tattoo made in tribute to his late mother. Adapted from her signature on a greeting card, the tattoo’s cheeky placement on the artist’s ass acts as a clever vehicle to address heavy themes such as death, grief, and trauma. As the film progresses, moving still lives of the family home and personal mementos are layered atop of a textural soundscape that combines manipulated audio from “Mama” by the Spice Girls with field recordings, spoken text, and voicemails left by the artist’s mother. Simultaneously lighthearted and somber, this film is a commemoration of familial bonds, be they biological or chosen or both.

SYNOPSIS:
Skyscraper Film is a camera-less handmade film collage created from scraps of 16mm orphan films from 1970s. Originally produced to promote tourism in North America these films are remediated by the filmmaker to create an abstract collage via the Emulsion Lifting/Emulsion Grafting technique.
With this technique, the filmmaker lifts by hand the emulsion layer from the film base and subsequently places it on a different film base, this way a celluloid collage is created, then re-animated.

Can I use the structure of the film strip as an architectural element, is it possible to utilize the celluloid material of the film as cement. Can these skyscrapers be transformed into something else? Can the solid lines melt into natural sensuous curves? Can I melt the skyscrapers away?
NOTES:
This version of the film has been sound-designed for headphones, please use them if you can.

A dream on a long dark highway.
Voyager Birdman is a frame-by-frame experimental animation made from spontaneous line drawings, rotoscoped video clips, and views of the highway filmed between Pennsylvania and West Virginia, USA. Sounds of podcast voices, old radio programs, Nasa recordings, and sampled audio files carried by the Voyager space probes launched in the late 1970’s merge with an unfolding stream of hand-drawn symbols, figures, abstractions, and fragments of the passing highway landscape. On one level, this work is about the idea of using drawing, animation and collage to find and create meaning. More directly, it’s an attempt to capture the fleeting dynamics of thoughts, memories and dreams experienced on a long night’s drive, much like the virtual and untethered character of contemporary existence, and the enduring lure of an interstellar connection.

The crowd can be seen as a sum of individualities but also as an autonomous acting power with its own logic and structure. Commun is an organic, social, and sensitive experience of a mass of pins, its behavior crosses the three modalities: community, communitarianism, communion.
