OTHER LATITUDES PANORAMA
Europe/North America

Consciousness about the world is not unique or privileged, but in audiovisual art, the question lies in what surrounds us and how the space/time factor affects us. In this program there are three interposed looks by starting with everyday becoming as an investigative, the influence of science and technology in human life, as well as the critical/philosophical discourse and the notion of “body” as a plastic matter for audiovisual creation.

Marginal Understandings is a poetic exploration of the American relationship to space, the soil, and ownership. While the drama of the European invasion and occupation of the American continent was justified as being the “destiny” of white people, there have always been alternative ways of living on the land, practiced by people who have been pushed to the economic margins.
A collage of poetic imagery, music, and abstracted, incantatory language, the film follows two men in an excavation of our cultural soil, using improvised dialog. Their words gives rise to unexpected landscapes, populated by bats, conquistadors, and flying fiddles. A postmodern video opera, Marginal Understandings bathes the viewer in music, language, and visual spectacle.

Nothing really survives here.
The bottom is so deep that no light ever reaches it.
Very few boats go through.
It is unknown when the falls will take place.
This experimental documentary portrays a space object and its fall into the darkness of a space cemetery. A woman scientist reveals her attachment to this object and the absence of images documenting this mysterious place. As a reverse sci-fi journey, this essay mixes real and fictional archives to guide us, like a stalker, to the outskirts of an invisible place.

For years I had been shooting with an iris attached to my lens creating a circle. The sun seemed to be a natural progression of the circle, especially its revolutions. The film is an accession into the heavens. This film was magically created from the soul of my spirit. The music was also magic that it glides the imagery into its many manifestations. This film is definitely the result of the magic of cinema capturing a spirit of space that would make George Melies cry in wonder.
